Use of which in interrogative sentences

Use of Which: 

WHICH is used when a choice needs to be made. (= I want to know the thing between alternatives)

Example:

Question: Which song did you like Lata’s or Asha’s?
प्रश्न: तुमने कौन सा गाना ज्यादा पसंद किया – लता का या आशा का?
Answer: I like whichever you like.
उत्तर: मुझे वही पसंद है, जो तुम्हें पसंद हैं ।

Question: Which book are you reading?
प्रश्न: तुम कौन सी पुस्तक पढ़ रहे हो?
Answer: It is the novel which I borrowed from you yesterday.
उत्तर: वह उपन्यास जो तुमसे कल मांगकर लाया था ।

Question: Which is your favourite book?
प्रश्न: तुम्हारी मनपसंद किताब कौन सी है?
Answer: My favourite book is ‘ Tulsi Ramayana ‘. 
उत्तर: मेरी मनपसंद किताब ‘तुलसी रामायण’ हैं ।

Question: Which is your favourite film?
प्रश्न: तुम्हारी मनपसंद फिल्म कौन सी है?
Answer: Sound of Music.
उत्तर: साउंड ऑफ़ म्युज़िक ।

----: Remember :----

  • Who  और  Which इन दोनों के अर्थ के अन्तर को समझिए । Who  का अर्थ है कौन और  Which का अर्थ है कौन – सा / कौन – सी । Who  मनुष्यों के लिए प्रयोग होता है और Which  पशुओं तथा बेजान वस्तुओं के लिए प्रयोग होता हैं । इस बात को नीचे दिये गये उदाहरण से अच्छी तरह मन में बैठा लीजिए:

Who:

वहाँ कौन हैं?
Who’s there?

आगरा कौन गया?
Who went to Agra?

यहाँ कौन आएगा?
Who will come here?

Which:

मेज़ पर कौन सी पुस्तक हैं?
Which book is on the table?

कौन सी पुस्तक मेरी हैं?
Which book is mine?

आपका कौन सा कुत्ता हैं?
Which is your dog?

  • Who  और Which  का एक एक अर्थ और भी है – ‘जो’ । नियम वही हैं । मनुष्यों के लिए Who  = जो और बेजान । वस्तुओं के लिए Which  = जो, जैसे:

मैं उस लड़की से मिला जो मॉनीटर हैं ।
I met the girl who is the monitor.

वह लड़की जो पियानो बजा रही है, मेरी बहन हैं ।
The girl, who is playing the piano, is my sister.

जो पुस्तक तुम चाहते हो, चुन लो ।
