past tense is used to denote an action which was completed in the past.

Rules:
- With most verbs, the simple past is created simply by adding “ed “.
Example:
- Play – Played
- Look – Looked
- If a regular verb ends with “ e “ add only “ d “ for both the past tense and past participle.
Example:
- Like – Liked
- Live – Lived
- For short, one-syllable verbs that end with consonant + vowel + consonant (CVC), we must double the last consonant and then add “ed “.
Example:
- Stop – Stopped
- Rub – Rubbed
- When a verb ends with “ y “ and there is a consonant before it, the “ y “ changes into “ i “ then the letter “ ed “ is added.
Example:
- Cry – Cried
- Study – Studied
- When a verb ends with “y “, and there is a vowel before it, we simply add the letter “ed “ to the verb.
Example:
- Play – Played
Formula:
Positive: Subject + V2 + object
Negative: Subject + did + not
+ V1 + object
Interrogative: Did + subject
+ V1 + object
Nag. Int.: Did + not +
subject + V1 + object
Key words:
Last night, yesterday, day
before yesterday, Last time, Last year, Last month, Last week.
Example:
- I ate mango.
- He come to India.
Example:
पूजाने अपने पुराने दोस्तों को याद किया ।
Positive: Pooja remembered
her old friends.
Negative: Pooja didn’t
remember her old friends.
Interrogative: Did Pooja
remember her old friends?
Neg. Int.: Didn’t Pooja
remember her old friend?
भास्करने पिछले हफ्ते
अपनी दूकान का उद्घाटन किया ।
Positive: Bhaskar inaugurated
his shop last week.
Negative: Bhaskar didn’t
inaugurate his shop last week.
Interrogative: Did Bhaskar
inaugurate his shop last week?
Neg. Int.: Didn’t Bhaskar
