Present Continuous Tense: The
present continuous tense is used for an action going on at the time of speaking.
Present continuous = use of
(am / is / are) + V1 + ing

Rules:
- When the verb ends with a silent “e “, drop the “e “and add “ing “.
Example:
Close – Closing, Graze - Grazing
- For short, one-syllable verbs that end with consonant + vowel + consonant (CVC), we must double the last consonant and then add “ing “.
Example:
Swim – Swimming, Cut – Cutting
- When words have two or more syllables ending in CVC, you must double the last consonant if the last syllable is stressed. When the last syllable is not stressed, just add “ing “.

Open – Opening, Gather - Gathering
Formula:
Positive: Subject + am / is / are + V1 + ing + object
Negative: Subject + am / is / are + not + V1 + ing + object
Interrogative: Am / is / are + subject + V1 + ing + object
Nag. Int.: Am / is / are + not + subject + V1 + ing + object
Examples:
- Rahul is singing.
- Kumar is cooking in the kitchen.
Example:
मैं पेन ढूँढ रही हूँ ।
Positive: I am searching a
pen.
Negative: I amn’t searching a
pen.
Interrogative: Am I searching
a pen?
Neg. Int.: Amn’t I searching
a pen?
मेरे पापा अखबार पढ़ रहे
है ।
Positive: My father is
reading a newspaper.
Negative: My father isn’t
reading a newspaper.
Interrogative: Is My father
reading a newspaper?
Neg. Int.: Isn’t My father
reading a newspaper?
मेरी मम्मी खाना बना रही
है ।
Positive: My Mother is
cooking food.
Negative: My Mother isn’t
cooking food.
Interrogative: Is My Mother
