Use of who in interrogative sentences

Use of Who: 

WHO is only used when referring to people. (= I want to know the person)

Example:

Question: Who are you?
प्रश्न: आप कौन हैं?
Answer: I am a businessman.
उत्तर: मैं एक व्यापारी हूं ।

Question: Who are they?
प्रश्न: वे कौन हैं?
Answer: They are my relatives.
उत्तर: मेरे संबंधी हैं ।

Question: Who sang the song?
प्रश्न: गीत किसने गाया?
Answer: Nipa did.
उत्तर: निपा ने ।

Question: Who will go to the market?
प्रश्न: बाज़ार में कौन जाएगा?
Answer: I will.
उत्तर: मैं जाऊंगा ।

Question: Who can do this work?
प्रश्न: इस काम को कौन कर सकता हैं?
Answer: Maya can.
उत्तर: माया ।

Question: Who is the owner of this house?
प्रश्न: इस मकान का मालिक कौन हैं?
Answer: My father.
उत्तर: मेरे पिता ।

(A)

  1. What do you say?
  2. What did you say?
  3. What had you said?
  4. What is this?
  5. What was that?

(B)

  1. I do not know what you say.
  2. I do not remember what you said.
  3. I do not remember what you had said.
  4. Tell me, what this is?
  5. Tell me, what that was.

  • A वाले वाक्य प्रश्नसूचक हैं, B वाले सीधे हैं । प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों को सामान्य वाक्य में वदलने के लिए ( 1 ) सहक्रियाएं  do, did  आदि हट जाती हैं और इन सामान्य क्रियाओं का प्रयोग होता हैं, जैसे – What do you say  का  you say  और  What did you say का  What you said आदि ( 2 ) प्रश्नसूचक वाक्यों में सहायक क्रिया  is, was, had आदि हो तो वह क्रिया  object के बाद चली जाती हैं । इसी प्रकार साधारण वाक्यों के प्रश्नसूचक वाक्य इस प्रकार बनेंगे ।

(A)

  1. I do not know who he is.
  2. Tell me whom you want.
  3. Tell me whose book that was.
  4. I do not know how old you are.
  5. Tell me how she knew.
  6. You did not say whom you had promised.

(B)

  1. Who is he?
  2. Whom do you want?
  3. Whose book was that?
  4. How old are you?
  5. How did she know?
  6. Whom had you promised?
